Title IX Regulations

Every school district that receives federal funding is required to designate and/or adequately train at least one employee to coordinate the recipient's Title IX responsibilities. Title IX regulations also require the name and contact information of each Title IX Coordinator be made public by the educational institution. This commitment requires that no discrimination shall occur regarding admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, any program and activity on the basis of age, ancestry, color, mental or physical disability, ethnicity, ethnic group identification, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, immigration status, marital or parental status, nationality, national origin, actual or perceived sex, sexual orientation, race, religion, or on the basis of a person's association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics.

Complaints alleging noncompliance with Title IX can be filed by utilizing the Uniform Complaint Procedures (UCP) as identified in California Code of Regulations, Title 5, Sections 4600 et. Seq. and San Diego Unified School District Policy must be filed in writing to the Title IX Coordinator:

504 Plans

Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 provides equal access to education by providing accommodations for students identified disabled that substantially limit one or more life activities even if they are not eligible for special education services. Further, Section 504 prohibits discrimination against students with disabilities in district programs, gives parents/guardian rights to examine relevant records, to participate in an impartial hearing including the opportunity for representation by counsel and a review procedure.

It is the policy of the district to provide a free appropriate public education to each student with disabilities. Parents/guardians who believe their student may have a disability are to contact the principal of the school to initiate a referral to the Student Study Team for review.
